Command authority ran three directions on every vessel: down to the crew (stop-work authority), across the system (an SMS implemented and externally audited by ABS, USCG, and Port State Control), and up with the client — joint calls on operational and safety decisions, including aligning the two safety management systems so they actually worked together.

[ why this niche ]

Most maritime experts either sailed deep-sea or are maritime generalists. Capt. Ferguson has 20+ years sailing the Gulf of Mexico specifically in support of the energy sector, with a 1,600 GRT / 3,000 ITC Master license upon Oceans, a Large OSV Master upon Oceans (in continuance), and a Nautical Institute Unlimited DP certification held for over 10 years while sailing. During his sailing career, Capt. Ferguson has commanded everything from small line-handlers running mooring operations at LOOP, to utility boats and FSVs delivering supplies and running production fields, to large DP2 OSVs launching ROVs for subsea maintenance and construction.
